President Bush, Keeping America Safe
What does he mean by safe? Safe from another terrorist attack? Safe from an invasion by another country? What country would and could invade America with its two oceans and two friendly neighbors protecting America?
During those seven years since the 9/11 terrorist attack, where all the attackers died, there have been more people killed in America by their spouses than were killed in the 9/11 attack.
During the seven years since 9/11 there have been about a quarter of a million fatalities on the government roads.
America has always been a safe place from terrorists and invasions, that is, until it started meddling in the affairs of other countries. For almost two centuries America had no terrorist attack to be concerned with. It only started when the U.S. government started taking sides between rivals in the Middle East.
Was the reduction in your freedoms caused by the Patriot Act worth the perceived safety?
What was the cost of the safety Mr. Bush refers to? Let the thousands of dead, maimed, and tortured answer that question. Ask them Mr. President.
Charles Tolleson
“A time will come when a politician who has willfully made war and promoted international dissension will be as sure of the dock and much surer of the noose than a private homicide. It is not reasonable that those who gamble with men's lives should not stake their own”. -H.G. Wells, writer (1866-1946)
